Beautiful & elegant brass statue of Nataraja - Dancing form of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva, depicted here as the Nataraja, is regarded as the most powerful god in Hinduism. Nataraja means "King of Dancers" (Sanskrit nata = dance; raja = king). Shiva is the god of destruction in the Hindu pantheon and the form of Nataraja gained prominence in the Chola dynasty of South India around the 10th century AD. The bronze statues of Nataraja from that era are some of the grandest examples of Hindu art .One of the most visually dramatic and culturally significant forms of the Supreme Being in Hinduism is Nataraja. In this form, Shiva dances Anandatandava—the Dance of Bliss. The purpose of this dance, it is believed, is to release humankind from ignorance and the snare of illusion of the "self."
